Australian Ransomware Update - 22nd October 2024
Regrettably, this week, we have seen two more attacks on Australian businesses. The first was against an entertainment and recreational experience company, with over 1,000 employees. The attacking group was Lynx, who are relatively small in their volume of attacks, and this representing only the second Australian business attacked, of their 31 in total known incidents.
The second attack was from Fog, against a large automobile servicing company. Fog, another first time participant on these update series, has attacked 3 Australian businesses of their 27 affected entities, all in 2024.
One of the group has posted evidence of the exfiltrated data, including financial and personal information, whilst the other has not provided visual proof but has detailed the records they have advised they have exfiltrated.
Further to this, some of the past attacks reported on this series are set to run out of negotiation time, which will result in large amounts of data being leaked by this time next week, which, in a word will be catastrophic for the victims, given the size of these entities.
